January, 2011

So I've decided I'm not cut out for blogging, just can't find the time to do it on a regular basis. However, I do love the idea of documenting life, so I will try..try, I say, to give a recap of events each month.

Well I started off the new year in bed...I think this was the first time since I was a teen that I didn't go out and celebrate in one way or another, or at least stay up until midnight! I guess I'm getting old! Family birthday's this month included my nephew Jared turning 22, my mother turning 72, and myself 37. I just keep getting closer to that darn 40!

Alicia is doing good in school, and is enjoying taking classes both in class, and online. She is still planning to attend beauty school through Tri-Tech next fall. Alicyn continues to expand her vocabulary, and has become quite the little comedian. She is 90% potty trained now, and is gradually transforming from baby to little girl, which is both sad and exciting for me. She patiently awaits the return of Grandma and Grandpa, who are "snow-birding" in Arizona until February 14th. She has no ideas when February 14th is, but she does know what she's going to do when that day comes:

"Alicyn, Grammy & Grandpa are coming home soon, what are you gonna do when you get to their house?" Alicia asks, expecting her to reply with something such as "get candy from Grandpa's candy jar", but no. Not Alicyn. She quickly replies "go pee!". She then asks me "Gamma and Gampa got toilet?" "Ya, they have two toilets" I said. "Gamma and Gampa got big toilet?" she then asked. "yep, big toilets" I replied. She then says with a big smile, "niiiice". She's very excited to pee in Gamma and Gampa's big toilet when they get home. She's also excited for them to "bring candy me", as that is always included her conversations to them. They get the usually "I nu-nu (love) you", "i miss you", and "bring candy me!".

Bryan has found a new love. He got a new car for Christmas, and spends most evenings in the garage tinkering with it. He has nowhere to go, so he usually just sits in it. A couple of weeks ago he decided it needed a black stripe down the side, so he did it. Luckily, it turned out really nice. I also have a new love...my iphone! Yep, had to get an iphone, 'cause all the cool kids had them.

Well that about wraps up our month. Trust me, we get funner when it's not so DANG cold outside!

I NEED A VACATION! - May 10, 2010

Life has been less than exciting lately. While a "no-drama" life is a good thing, I tend to get a little bored with the day to day monotony of my "grown-up" existence. It doesn't help that I live where I work, and my only escape is an occasional trip to my Parent's house or Walmart. I'm ready to jump in the motor home and get away for a few days! I don't have camping reservations until the first weekend in June, so I'll just have to make a few extra Walmart trips this month to excite me!
We celebrated Bryan's birthday the weekend before with a surprise visit from Heather. We enjoyed her stay, and she was able to get reacquainted with her baby sissy who didn't want to leave her side by the end of the weekend.

I had my Parents over for a Mother's Day brunch this past Sunday. Alicia and I served biscuits and gravy, a breakfast casserole, apple and cherry turnovers, deviled eggs and fresh fruit. Alicyn was extremely loving and "kissy" to her Grandparents, and even mother Nature was on her best behavior, allowing us to sit outside and visit without freezing.

At Alicyn's 18 month check-up in April, her Dr. was a little concerned with her limited vocabulary. While she is extremely smart, and understands everything, she's not much of a talker, and the words she does say, aren't pronounced correctly. He preformed a pressure test on her ears, which evidently measures the movement of the eardrum when a puff of air is blown into it. Neither of her ears showed any movement, which is not a good thing. His assumption was that she has fluid behind the eardrums, not allowing them to move, therefor affecting her hearing, which in turn is affecting her speech. Apparently it is quite common, and involves inserting drainage tubes into the ears for a year or two at which point they can be removed, and all should be fine. She has an appointment to see a specialist on Wednesday, so we should know more then.

TAX DAY! - April 15, 2010

Well I finally got my taxes filed without any time to spare! After having my e-file rejected by the IRS three times, I got confirmation of acceptance last night. We don't get a refund, but we don't have to pay either, so I can live with that.
Not much has been going on since my last post. We had Easter dinner with Mom & Dad, Alicyn got a sandbox, and Bryan dropped a tree on a tenant's fence. OOPS!
The weather is finally warming up, and Alicyn is LOVING the outdoors. Alicia got her driver's permit in February, and is perfecing her driving skills in driver's ed. She is expected to get her lisence at the end of summer. Next she will have to learn to drive a stick shift, since she will be getting my old Toyota Tercel. We've had a couple of lessons in it, but had to take a break to let my whiplash heal up. OK, so maybe I'm exagerating a little, but lets just say she needs to work on her starting and stopping!

April Fools! - April 2, 2010

Ya, I know, April 1st was yesterday, but for some reason blogger wouldn't let me post yesterday. Anyways, the April fools prank I pulled on Bryan went perfectly! I called him around 10:00 a.m. or so and told him I was going to the post office and would be right back. I really did need to mail a certified letter, so after I was done there, I drove about half way home and them pulled onto the side of the road. I called Bryan and told him I had run out of gas and I needed him to come bring me some. Of course he wasn't happy about it, but agreed to go gather the gas can, leave work, and come to my rescue. About ten minutes or so later, here he came to save the day. He pulled up on the side of the road behind me, and as he started to get out of the truck, I waved and took off...He didn't talk to me for the next few hours.LOL!
Speaking of April fools, Dad has a birthday next week on the 8th. He will be 75. Bryan is also an April fool with a birthday on the 27th. That's if he makes it that long. He's trimming trees in the Park this month, and it can get pretty scary!

Well I'm off to find Alicyn a sweater to wear with her Easter dress this Sunday. From the looks of the weather, she'll need one!

The Dreaded Diet - August 25, 2010

The other day I decided to replace the battery in the bathroom scale that has been dead for several months. BIG mistake! We found out we were fat! The WHOLE family! Well except for Alicyn. We decided enough was enough. We can all stand to eat healthier, and we certainly can cut out the fast food and sugary snacks. Our minds were made up! TODAY is the day. Instead of going out for a burger and fries for lunch, we came home and made chicken salad sandwiches. As we left the house to go back to work, my Mother-in-law pulled up...with homemade fudge, and homemade peanut brittle...Did I say TODAY is the day? I meant TOMORROW!

Our Family History - August 25, 2010

Since this is day one of blogging, I thought I'd start with a little family history. Our family consists of myself, Amy, my husband Bryan, and our 4 children. At home we have Alicia, 15, who is mine from a previous marriage, and Alicyn, 17 months. Alicia is a freshman at Hanford high School, and Alicyn spends her days with babysitter, Aunt Shannon. We also have Bryan's children from his 1st marriage, Jay who is 20, and Heather, 19. Jay & Heather both live in Portland Oregon with their mother, and are full time college students. Our blended family began when Bryan and I met back in 2001, although we didn't tie the knot until January of 2007, when we ran off to Vegas for a crazy, and freezing, drive-thru wedding at the Little White Wedding Chapel.
Bryan and I currently manage Desert View Manufactured Home Community in West Richland, WA., and have been with the company for almost 6 years now. It's a great Park, and a wonderful company to work for.

Our wedding - 2007

Alicia - 2008

Alicyn - 2010

Heather - 2009

Jay - 2007

That's us...The Davis-Pena Family.
